Joe Jonas is a Haiti Helper

Joe Jonas is just one of the many celebs lending a hand to help Haiti.

The 20-year-old spoke with MTV at the 2010 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, and shared, “I think I might go, to do some relief work. I’m going to try; I’m going to try to get there. [I can get there] either this Tuesday or, like, two or three weeks from now. I can’t promise I’m going to go, but I’m going to try. I really want to be able to support in any way I can; I was going to go to Haiti before, to do similar work there. But now it’s obviously a completely different thing and my heart goes out to those people there and the families and everything.”

Joe continued, “I just pray that everybody’s alright, and I’m going to try and do my best by getting there. And I would definitely say, if anyone can give money or support, it’s the perfect way to do it.”

Joe and his brothers Nick and Kevin did donate some money to help the relief — and their fans crashed the Convoy of Hope’s website! They tweeted, “Wow, all our awesome fans almost crashed their website. Help the victims of Haiti by following @convoyofhope and give to help others live.”

You might need to use tools that require adult supervision, such as glue gun and scissors. If so, these can be replaced by textile glue and safety scissors. Make sure you ask your parents some help.

Flowers are a mainstay on Valentine’s Day, but real flower fade and wilt. Make this pretty in pink bundle of tissue paper carnations, they will last forever!

What you’ll need:

  • Pink tissue paper, cut into 7″ x 3″ rectangles (2 per flower)
  • Pink and purple chenille stems
  • Scissors
  • Thin white ribbon

How to make it:

  1. Take two tissue paper rectangles and lay them one on top of the other so that that line up exactly.
  2. Cut ½” wide slits along the long edge about half way up the tissue paper. (Picture #1)
  3. Cut a one-inch piece off the chenille stem and set aside. (Picture #2)
  4. Place the long piece of chenille in the center of the tissue paper rectangle, the slits should be at the top. (Picture #3)
  5. Fold tissue paper in half, over the chenille stem, like a greeting card. (Picture #4)
  6. Holding the chenille in place, roll the tissue paper up around the chenille. (Picture #5)
  7. Hold tissue paper in place and wrap the small piece of chenille (that you trimmed off in step 3) around the tissue paper, below the slits. (Picture #6)
  8. Fluff up the petals of the flower to your liking.
  9. Repeat steps 1-8 for as many flowers as you like.
  10. Gather flower stems together and tie bouquet together with a piece of white ribbon. (Picture #7)

Tips:

  • Save tissue paper from birthday presents to use in craft projects.
  • Chenille stems are available in a variety of colors, check for clearance sales after each holiday!
  • Yarn may be used as a substitute for the ribbon.
