This drink is the perfect treat for a Fourth of July breakfast or brunch. The layered red, white, and blue effect will get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vanilla flavored yogurt, plus more for garnish
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup milk or water
  • 1 large banana, cut up
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup blueberries, for garnish

Cooking Instructions

  1. Place yogurt, strawberries, milk, banana and sugar into a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into tall glasses and top each drink with 1 teaspoon of yogurt and garnish with blueberries.

Tips & Tricks

Pour mixture into Popsicle molds and freeze for a delicious frozen treat.

Trifles are great desserts for summer because they don’t require any baking and almost zero sweat equity. Pick your favorite fruits and cookies or cake and layer away.

Ingredients

  • 12 large strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 4 cups store bought angel food cake, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup blueberries

Cooking Instructions

  1. Place half of the strawberries, water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Mash mixture using a potato masher or fork and cook for about 5 minutes until mixture becomes syrup-like. Cool for 5 minutes.
  2. In a bowl of an electric mixer, beat cream until soft peaks form. Layer cake, cream, strawberries and blueberries in clear cocktail glasses. Drizzle cooled strawberry syrup over top of each trifle. Can be served immediately or covered and refrigerated overnight.

Substitution(s)

Can’t find Angel food cake? Use pound cake or vanilla wafers.

Ever thought you could bake bread in your microwave? This easy yeast bread recipe for English muffin loaf is just that simple. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon and a cup of raisins for a sweeter batch.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon yellow cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Cooking Instructions

  1. Lightly grease a microwave-safe 9×5-inch loaf pan; sprinkle pan with cornmeal.
  2. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add milk, sugar, salt, soda and whole wheat flour; beat well. Beat in all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough is formed. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead for about 5 minutes, or until smooth. Form into a loaf, and place into the prepared pan.
  3. Place in microwave oven uncovered, at 50 percent power, for 1 minute. Let rest for 10 minutes. Repeat 1 or 2 times until loaf has doubled in size.
  4. Microwave on high for 4 to 6 minutes, until top is no longer moist. Let stand for 5 minutes in pan. Remove and cool on a rack.

Preparation Time: 35 min.

Cooking Time: 4 min.

Ready In: 45 min.

This satisfying bistro-style sandwich will take you out of a lunch rut. It combines seasoned chicken with sweet Dijon mustard and rosemary on herbed foccacia. The chicken and spread can be prepared in advance.

Ingredients

  • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves – pounded to 1/4 inch thickness
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons prepared Dijon-style mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
  • 8 slices garlic and rosemary focaccia bread

Cooking Instructions

  1. Sprinkle pepper on one side of each chicken cutlet. Heat oil in a large skillet; brown garlic in oil, then add chicken, pepper-side-down. Saute chicken until cooked through and juices run clear, about 12 to 15 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl combine the mayonnaise, mustard and rosemary. Mix together and spread mixture on 4 slices focaccia bread. Place 1 chicken cutlet on each of these slices, then top each with another bread slice.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk

Cooking Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×9-inch pan or line a muffin pan with paper liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder, add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Finally stir in the milk until batter is smooth. Pour or spoon batter into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven. For cupcakes, bake 20 to 25 minutes. Cake is done when it springs back to the touch.

As a part of the 2010 biggest music breakouts feature, the 16-year-old told the mag that there’s a movie on the way of how he made it big.

Justin shared, “We’re trying to set up a movie for me in the near future—it’s going to be similar to the story of how I got discovered. Kinda like my own version of 8 Mile.”

Justin does not stop. Now he has actually played at the White House, a privilege that few musicians get to have.

The popular teen singer was invited by Obama himself to sing at the White House for the Easter celebration.

The party was a success and many famous celebrities danced to his songs, like Baby, One Time and U Smile.

Justin also played the drums, putting on a long drum solo where he showed off another one of his many talents.

Justin also almost passed out, and it was not because he was singing in the White House. He almost fainted because it was so hot that evening in Washington. Next time maybe Justin should bring a bottle of water with him?Tongue out

You don’t have to dine at an upscale restaurant to enjoy molten chocolate cake. Here’s a recipe that replicates the dessert favorite, right down to the gooey center.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 60% cacoa baking chocolate chips
  • 14 tablespoons butter
  • 3 whole eggs
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1-1/2 cups powdered (confectioner’s) sugar, plus 1 tablespoon for garnishing
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla  
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate baking chips

Cooking Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line cupcake tins with baking cups. Stir 60% cacoa chips and 10 tablespoons butter in heavy medium saucepan over low heat until melted. Cool slightly and set aside.
  2. Stir white chocolate chips and remaining butter in heavy medium saucepan over low heat until melted. Drain off extra butter fat; cool and set aside.
  3. Whisk eggs and egg yolk in large bowl to blend. Add sugar, then chocolate mixture and flour. Add the vanilla. Mix until thoroughly blended.
  4. Pour mixture into baking cups half-way. Drop 1/2 tablespoon white chocolate into center of mixture. Top with remaining batter.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes; remove from oven and invert over small dessert plate.
  6. Dust with confectioner’s powder and serve immediately.

Substitution(s)

Skip the white chocolate center and substitute a raspberry filling instead.

Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Ready In: 30 minutes
