Tissue Paper Carnations!

You might need to use tools that require adult supervision, such as glue gun and scissors. If so, these can be replaced by textile glue and safety scissors. Make sure you ask your parents some help.
Mom will love these flowers that will last all year long. This pretty bouquet looks great all by itself wrapped in a construction paper cone or placed in a lovely vase. This also makes a fantastic craft for celebrating spring.
What you’ll need:
- Pink, green, and white tissue paper
- Chenille stems
- Scissors
How to make it:
- Layer three to four sheets of pink tissue paper together then cut them into 4-5” wide strips that are 12” long.
- Cut about 1.5” off the end of a chenille stem and set aside.
- Take the remaining piece of the chenille stem and lay about 2” of it onto the tissue paper and roll up (starting at the short end) around the chenille. (Picture #1)
- Once completely rolled up, take the short piece of chenille that you cut off earlier and twist it around the bottom of the tissue paper to hold it in place. (Picture #2)
- Use scissors to cut 2-3” long slits down from the top of the rolled tissue paper. Continue around until all strips are cut. (Picture #3)
- Roll up a 6”x2” piece of green tissue paper and place at the top of the flower stem. (Picture #4)
- Grab the bottom of the stem and bring it up and over the green tissue paper and twist tight. These are the flower’s leaves. (Picture #5)
- Repeat, making several different flowers, then combine the stems to make a bouquet.
- Twist the stem of any one of the flowers around the rest of the stems to hold them all together. (Picture #6)
- Place them in a vase and use them as a table centerpiece. (Picture #7)
Tips:
- Chenille stems can be sharp, so you may want to help your younger siblings twist the small piece of stem around the flower.
- Try different colors to suit each holiday or occasion!
- Save tissue paper from birthday parties to use in craft projects such as these.

Mom ‘N’ Me Wooden Spoons!

You might need to use tools that require adult supervision, such as glue gun and scissors. If so, these can be replaced by textile glue and safety scissors. Make sure you ask your parents some help.
These cute little dolls made from wooden spoons can be personalized however you’d like. Use your hair color, favorite outfits, and adjust the spoon to be girl or boy.
What you’ll need:
- 2 wooden spoons, one larger than the other
- Yarn in your choice of colors
- Scissors
- Ribbon
- White craft glue
- Pony beads
- Wiggle eyes
- 2 small pink pom-poms
- Black marker
- Pink and red crayons
- Felt
- Buttons or pom-poms to decorate clothes
How to make it:
- Take a long piece of yarn and fold it back and forth so that each length touches end to end until you have a small handful. Tie a piece of ribbon in the center. Don’t tie it too tight, just enough to gather it together. Tie into a bow, trim ribbon ends, and cut all the looped ends to create the hair. (Picture #1)
- Pipe some glue around the top of the wooden spoon and press the yarn hair onto the “head.” (Picture #2)
- Glue on wiggle eyes, a pom-pom for a nose, and use marker to draw on mouth. Use a pink crayon for cheeks and red for Mom’s lipstick. (Picture #1 & #2)
- To make a necklace for Mom by stringing some pony beads onto a piece of ribbon. Tie around neck of spoon. (Picture #3)
- To create the dress, fold the corner of a piece of felt down and place spoon (face down) onto the felt, the folded corner will be the dress’s neckline. (Picture #4)
- Fold the felt over one side, then fold the other side over. Glue in place. (Picture #5)
- Slide off the spoon and trim the bottom straight to create dress. Slip the spoon back into the felt dress and glue in place. (Picture #6)
- Repeat these steps for the child’s spoon as well.
- Decorate the dresses with pom-poms, buttons, and ribbon.
Tips:
- To create a quick display can, insert some floral foam inside a clean aluminum can and insert the spoons. Tie a piece of ribbon or felt around the center of the can.
- Painting the spoons is not necessary but you may do so if you wish.
- To make a boy spoon, cut short pieces of yarn, no ribbon, and use a straight tube of felt for the clothing.
